Delphi Honors Its Brightest Engineers With Induction Into Innovation Hall of FameTROY, Mich. -- Delphi Automotive Systems' will induct 84 of its most talented inventors into the company's prestigious Innovation Hall of Fame during a ceremony tonight at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn, Mich. Induction into the hall is Delphi Automotive Systems' highest engineering honor. Fewer than 1 percent of Delphi's 15,000 engineers and scientists are eligible for admission. To celebrate, the honorees will be treated to a black-tie Oscar-caliber ballroom event that combines the stately elegance of the Ritz with the futuristic multi-media display overtaking the stage. Delphi began the Innovation Hall of Fame in 1995 and inducts new members every two years. This year's event is the Hall's third induction ceremony. For many members of the "Class of '99," induction into the Hall of Fame is a lifetime achievement, a culmination of the achievements they have made throughout their professional careers. "Delphi engineers and scientists are truly heroes -- they are inventing our future," said J. T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, chief executive officer and president. "The outstanding contributions they've made will help ensure Delphi's long-term success as an independent company. We are proud to recognize and honor this year's inductees for their achievements." In addition to the honor of gaining a place in the Innovation Hall of Fame, recipients will receive a marble obelisk, the Egyptian symbol of power. Also, their names and pictures will be featured on a silver wall plaque that is displayed year-round at Delphi's World Headquarters and Customer Center in Troy, Mich. In addition to the 84 employees inducted, there will be former Innovation Hall of Fame inductees who will receive special Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards that commemorate their extraordinary achievements. This year's class raises the total number of Delphi inductees to 250 employees. The Innovation Hall of Fame is a series of awards given to Delphi's top inventors and is based on a point system. Inventors receive a various number of points for Defensive Publications, Patents and Trade Secrets. Thanks to the efforts of these honorees, Delphi can now boast technology patents on global door latch assemblies, airbag technology, heating and cooling systems, fiber optic technology, anti-theft devices and electric power steering systems, among many other important vehicle component innovations.
