Standard Motor Products, Inc. To Elect James Burke, Chief Financial Officer

    NEW YORK--Sept. 23, 1999--Standard Motor Products, Inc. , an automotive replacement parts manufacturer and distributor, announced today that its Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Michael J. Bailey will be resigning his position to become the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of S.C. Johnson Commercial Markets, Inc., Sturtevant, WI. Mr. Bailey has agreed to provide transition support to Standard Motor Products, Inc. through late October, 1999. Mr. James J. Burke, 43 years old, will be elected Vice President, Chief Financial Officer of Standard Motor Products, Inc., in October. Mr. Burke is presently Director of Finance, Chief Accounting Officer of Standard Motor Products, Inc., a position he has held since January, 1998. Prior to that time, since September 1993, Mr. Burke served as the Corporate Controller of Standard Motor Products, Inc. Mr. Burke has worked for Standard Motor Products, Inc., since 1986.
    Mr. Larry Sills, President said, "we are grateful for Mr. Bailey's efforts to strengthen the financial organization of Standard and introduce EVA. He also played an instrumental role in helping to focus the Company on its two strong product lines. During his tenure, we saw many favorable changes that will continue to benefit the Company in the future. I am quite pleased that the Company has such a strong finance organization to be able to move an internal candidate, Mr. Burke, into the CFO position. Mr. Burke has worked very closely with Mr. Bailey, in all facets of the finance function, over the past two years and we are confident of a smooth transition."
