Spatial Inc. Announces ACIS 3D Open Viewer 5.2
BOULDER, Colo.--Sept. 22, 1999--Productivity and Enterprise-Wide Interoperability With Enhanced
Plug-In Customization and Support for ACIS 5.2
Spatial Inc. (AMEX: STY), the world's leading developer of 3D modeling technology and interoperability solutions, today announced the availability of version 5.2 of the ACIS(R) 3D Open Viewer. Based on the ACIS 3D Toolkit(TM) 5.2 and compatible with Microsoft(R) Office products, this free viewer provides immediate and corporate-wide access to the most up-to-date SAT(TM) models used within an engineering and manufacturing enterprise. The ACIS Viewer now provides easier customization and ease-of-use through enhanced plug-in interfaces.
The ACIS Viewer 5.2 can be used as a stand-alone viewer or as an embedded OLE application in standard Microsoft Office products and an Active-X component for PowerPoint presentations and Internet Explorer HTML pages. The product's abilities to view and manipulate SAT files, created from ACIS 1.6 through to ACIS 5.2, allow 3D design and engineering files to be quickly viewed, shared and utilized by professionals throughout an enterprise without requiring specialized training or tools. Now, 3D design representations can be accessed and used by Sales, Marketing, Finance, Technical Documentation and other departments as soon as any design phase is complete, enabling greater collaboration and interoperability between departments, business partners, consultants and clients. This latest version of the ACIS Viewer provides greater levels of accessibility by enabling easy management of plug-ins through an improved interface. For example, users can create a custom-button to replace the FileOpen dialog, which would streamline the process of accessing files from a data repository, specialized PDM system and other systems. The same improved interface also enables customized access to files that are not specifically SAT format, but which encapsulate SAT data, including DWG, DXF and other product-specific formats. In addition, the ACIS Viewer 5.2 now improves the file viewing experience by supporting 256 color display and an improved texture support.
Bruce Morgan, President and CEO, Spatial Inc., commented: "Spatial continues to be the innovator in providing true cross-enterprise interoperability products that serve as standard-setters in the CAD/CAM/CAE industry. The ACIS Viewer has been shown to improve design practices, operations and collaboration efforts for user companies. The ongoing aim for Spatial is to make access to engineering and design data straightforward and more streamlined. The ACIS Viewer is an exemplary instance of Spatial achieving this aim."
Mr. John McIver of Temporal Images, commented: "Spatial's 3D Open Viewer provides our users with the flexibility they need to totally streamline their workflow and manufacturing processes. The ability to view, manipulate and save all versions of SAT files ensures that the data they create and use remains valid at all points in the design and manufacturing process."
Temporal Images, based in Victoria, Australia, provides consulting and development services for technical computing applications, NC Machine tool development and 3D modeling procedures. Further information can be found at http://www.temporal.com.au
