Read the Writing on the ... Cell Phone? Advanced Recognition Technologies Launches simpliWrite Handwriting Recognition Solution for Consumer-Based Mobile Appliances
SIMI VALLEY, Calif.--Sept. 22, 1999--Advanced Recognition Technologies(tm) Inc. (ART), the leading supplier of voice and handwriting recognition solutions to the wireless industry, announced today the launch of the simpliWrite(tm) Embedded Handwriting Recognition Solution.simpliWrite offers many innovations and benefits using handwriting recognition to both users and manufacturers of consumer-based mobile appliances, such as cellular phones, pagers, remote controls, automobile multi-media components and others.
Simply Fast and Accurate
simpliWrite is a fast and convenient way for users to interact with mobile appliances. simpliWrite is a natural character recognizer for standard text character shapes; users do not need to learn a special set of characters and don't need to train the software to recognize their style of writing, making it an ideal application for devices shared by multiple users.
Users can simply write up to two strokes per character on a touch-sensitive LCD screen or touch pad (resistive or capacitive) and recognition results are produced immediately and accurately after writing each character.
For example: Users of cell phones or Smartphones can easily program contact names and phone numbers or write emails or Internet addresses by easily and quickly entering the information by writing with the tip of their thumb or finger, rather than attempting to decode the push button alphabet or on-screen keyboard.
Other simpliWrite features include convenient text editing, macro and shortcut support and various support features for left-handed users. simpliWrite also supports Western European languages such as German, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese, providing a single software solution that can be used for global product implementation.
Simple to Integrate Into Product Design
Designed with low processing power usage and low memory consumption, simpliWrite is a software-only solution that provides excellent integration with portable devices and various operating systems without requiring extra hardware.
Written in ANSI C, simpliWrite delivers superior features and performance over a variety of micro-controller and operating systems using only 35KB of code, allowing manufacturers to offer consistent user benefits across product lines and global borders. simpliWrite features a powerful set of application programming interfaces (APIs), greatly reducing the development effort and time required to integrate handwriting recognition into the user interface.
Richard McCaskill, ART's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, is confident that simpliWrite will take the mobile marketplace by storm.
McCaskill commented: "Even at product inception, the level of interest for simpliWrite by manufacturers under NDA has been extremely high. As mobile devices are becoming information super-highways with more features and capabilities, OEMs are aware that they need to meet the consumer demand for an interface that is simple to use, convenient and intelligent. simpliWrite is all that."
Consumer-based mobile appliance manufacturers including simpliWrite into their product design will be announced shortly, with initial product launches scheduled for 4Q 1999.
