Tower Automotive, Inc., Announces Tooling Center ShutdownGRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 21 -- Tower Automotive, Inc. , announced today that it will shut down the Detroit Tooling Center that is part of the recent acquisition of Active Tool & Manufacturing Co. Inc. The company said it expects to complete the shutdown by December 1, 1999, and said there will be no earnings impact as a result of this decision. Dugald Campbell, president and chief executive officer of Tower Automotive, said: "With so much tool-making capacity available in the industry, our ability to win new programs must be enhanced by utilizing independent tool-making capabilities that are globally competitive and very focused on their own segment of the value chain. Tower Automotive, Inc., produces a broad range of assemblies and modules for vehicle structures and suspension systems for the automotive manufacturers, including Ford, DaimlerChrysler, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Auto Alliance, Fiat, BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes. Products include body structural assemblies such as pillars and package trays, control arms, suspension links, engine cradles and full frame assemblies.
