Round the Clock Bargaining Continues at CAW/Ford Talks
TORONTO, Sept. 21 /CNW-PRN/ - Bargaining between the CAW and the Ford
Motor Company is continuing throughout the night in an effort to reach a
tentative settlement prior to the strike deadline of 11:59 p.m. today. Close
to midnight CAW president Buzz Hargrove said after a union caucus meeting that
there was now an 80% chance of averting a strike, noting that talks on the
CAW's priority issue -- pensions -- were progressing well. He also said that
there remained some tough issues such as, ``the neutrality letter'', modular
production and key economic issues such as, wages and health care benefits,
amongst others.
Hargrove will brief the media at 10:00 a.m. in the Colony Grande East
Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the Toronto Colony Hotel, 89 Chestnut Street.
