Dana Enhances Outreach to Brazilian Communities
GRAVATAI, Brazil, Sept. 20 -- Dana Corporation
has increased its charitable efforts in Brazil with the introduction of
"SolidariDANA," a program which will help to provide a better way of life for
residents of local communities. SolidariDANA involves numerous charitable
activities, and enhances/reinforces the company's commitment to community
service.
This winter, SolidariDANA featured a new charitable effort called "It's in
the Heart." This program, designed to collect winter clothing, involved more
than 100 auto part stores in Sao Paulo, Parana, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande
do Sul, the main cities in Brazil's southeastern region where the winter is
severe. The collection encourages mechanics to donate two pieces of winter
clothing at participating auto parts stores in exchange for a Dana decoration
set including banners, stickers, and posters for their garages. More than
3,000 items of clothing were donated.
Another part of SolidariDANA is the Brinquedoteca project, currently in
its fourth year. Brinquedoteca is a pioneering project that uses money
normally spent on customer holiday cards and gifts, to purchase and distribute
educational toys and games to local day cares and orphanages. Last holiday
season, 20 Brinquedoteca sets with 50 different toys and games each were
distributed to 20 institutions, assisting more than 1,500 children.
"This project illustrates the importance Dana places on strong corporate
citizenship," said Chuck Heine, president of Dana's Engine Systems Group. "We
extend our help to our communities in an attempt to lead by example."
As an additional part of the SolidariDana effort, Dana Brazil executives
are collecting food donations from invited guests at Dana lectures and
speeches. Dana Brazil will match the donations, and will distribute the food
throughout the area. The last meeting gathered two tons of food from
450 people who attended a presentation on Brazilian vehicle market trends.
Dana Corporation is one of the world's largest independent suppliers to
vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket. Founded in 1904 and based in
Toledo, Ohio, the company operates some 330 major facilities in 32 countries
and employs more than 86,000 people. The company reported sales of
$12.5 billion in 1998. Dana's Internet address is http://www.dana.com .
