Delphi Invests in its Coopersville Facility

Delphi Invests in its Coopersville Facility
FLINT, Mich., Sept. 17 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
is investing in equipment that will increase the production of
Multec 2 fuel injectors, a product with high-precision manufacturing, tighter
tolerances and improved fuel control.
With a new investment of $24.9 million in its Coopersville, Mich.,
facility, Delphi will expand Multec 2 production volume to meet growing demand
from customers, according to Donald L. Runkle, president of Delphi Energy &
Engine Management Systems. The investment involves the installation of a
module that encompasses manufacturing, assembly and testing stations to be
used exclusively for the production of the Multec 2 injectors. The facility
has manufactured Multec 2 fuel injectors for a year.
"By increasing the capacity to manufacture Multec 2 fuel injectors at our
Coopersville facility, Delphi will supply this world-class technology to
additional OEM customers," said Runkle. "The Multec 2 injector provides
significant performance and emissions advances."
The Multec 2 range of injectors is part of Delphi's response to automakers
around the world who are being challenged to design motor-vehicle power plants
that combine lower emissions with fuel efficiency, while simultaneously
maintaining or improving vehicle performance. According to Edward T. DiEnno,
Coopersville plant manager, Multec 2 injectors are designed and manufactured
to meet the most stringent worldwide application requirements in both
passenger cars and trucks. Multec 2 injectors can be used with two- or four-
valve engines and are suitable for use not only with gasoline but also with
any commercially available gasoline-alcohol mixture. The Multec 2 injector is
small, to facilitate spray targeting and engine packaging, and is quiet,
eliminating the need for supplemental sound deadeners. World-class durability
and tight flow tolerances minimize engine emissions throughout the vehicle's
life.
The additional manufacturing capacity in Coopersville provides increased
customer value and responsiveness, DiEnno said.
"This investment is significant not only because it enables Delphi to use
the most recent manufacturing technology to produce Multec 2 injectors, but
also because it continues to build on the strong relationship between Delphi
and the Coopersville community," said DiEnno. "We're excited about the
opportunity this investment affords us to improve our competitiveness."
Delphi's Multec 2 fuel injectors are manufactured for OEM customers on
five continents around the globe.
Capital expenditures announced during the first six months of 1999 for
Delphi's Dynamics and
Propulsion Sector worldwide were in excess of $165 million. During 1998,
Delphi invested approximately $900 million in capital expenditures for all
Delphi domestic locations.
Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, is a
