Moldflow Announces Release of Moldflow Plastics Xpert 1.3

LEXINGTON, Mass.--Sept. 16, 1999--Moldflow Corporation, the world leader in process-wide plastics simulation, has announced the release of version 1.3 of Moldflow Plastics Xpert (MPX), which includes several key performance enhancements. Most significant with this release are improved ease of use and a simplified lower cost installation procedure.
MPX, which was first introduced in September 1998, was the first system of its kind to aid in the setup and process optimization of injection molding machines. With MPX, molders can improve their productivity by expediting the mold setup process, optimizing cycle times, and controlling the process in production. The MPX system uses standard hardware that easily attaches to the injection molding machine.
A significant new feature of release 1.3 is a "Manual Injection Molding Machine Controller Interface", which eliminates the need for a host computer interface (HCI) card on the injection molding machine. This allows MPX to be installed, evaluated, and put into production without the additional cost and time associated with installing an HCI card.
Other new features include a "Cavity Pressure Control Loop", which gives users the option to control the molding process based on cavity pressure; an easy to install "Machine Interface Unit" (MIU) that connects the injection molding machine to the MPX computer; and an "Out-of-Specification Relay Trigger", a signal that can be triggered to either sound an alarm or redirect an out-of-specification part. A new German language version is also available.
According to Peter Rucinski, MPX product manager at Moldflow, "The MPX 1.3 enhancements are in direct response to requests made by our customers. The new "Manual Injection Molding Machine Controller Interface" makes MPX available to a significantly larger universe of molding machines, and the new German version reflects Moldflow's commitment to ease of use and local language support. We are responding to the market demands for MPX."
