TV/RADIO: TNN Tape Delayed, October 3, 3:00 p.m. ET FIELD: 40 cars. Starting positions 1-24 will be determined by first round time trials (2 laps). Positions 25-33 will be determined by second round time trials (2 laps). Positions 34-37 have been established for up to four additional starting positions for any of the top 30 eligible drivers in the current 1999 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Championship point standings, who have entered the event, but have not qualified for one of the original 33 starting spots. Position 38 has been established for up to one additional starting position which will be available to any of the top 30 drivers in the final 1999RE/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring Championship point standings and Position 39 has been established for up to one additional starting position which will be assigned to any of the top 30 drivers in the final 1999 Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series, NASCAR Touring Championship point standings, who have not qualified for one of the original 33 starting positions, provided eligible driver attempts to qualify in qualifying events. Official point standings and not time trial speeds will determine these starting positions. Position 40 has been established for one additional starting position which will be assigned to any Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring Champion driver who participated as a driver in the 1998 Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring and who did not qualify for one of the original 33 starting positions. This race is the most lucrative on the series schedule, as well as the longest. This is the ninth consecutive year that the race is part of the annual schedule for the Slim Jim All Pro Series, NASCAR Touring. RECORDS Track Qual. Record: Matt Hutter, Chardon, Oh., Chevrolet, 18.462 secs., 116.217 mph, 10/13/96 Fastest Avg. Speed: Freddie Query, Mooresville, N.C., Chevrolet, 2 hrs., 32 mins., 52 secs., 93.572 mph, 10/18/98 1998 REVIEW: Mooresville, N.C.'s Freddie Query backed up his 1997 win with a new race record covering the 238.4 miles in two hours, 32 minutes and 52 seconds, breaking Darrell Waltrip's 11-year-old record. There were only eight caution periods consuming 51 laps. Bobby Gill won the Bud Pole Award and led the first 55 laps. Ultimately there were 10 lead changes among seven drivers. Query's winning take was $24,950 and the top five was rounded out by Rick Beebe, Billy Bigley, Jr., Derrick Gilchrist and Scott Hansen. The top four cars were the only drivers to complete all 400 laps while Hansen completed 398. NOTES OF INTEREST · For the first time in the history of the All American 400 this year's event will be run under the lights. · In the 18-year history of the event there have been only three repeat winners. Gary Balough (1984, 1986), Butch Miller (1988, 1989), Jeff Purvis (1991, 1992 & 1995) and Freddie Query (1997, 1998) are the only multi-time winners. · Chatsworth, Ga.'s Jody Ridley has started the most All American 400's (14), and has the most top 10 finishes (11). STAT OF THE WEEK: Should he finish all 400 laps, Slim Jim All Pro Series points leader Wayne Anderson will become the first driver in the nine-year history of the Slim Jim All Pro Series to complete 100% of all laps run in a season. If he captures a top 10 finish he will also be the first driver in series history to finish in the top 10 in all of the events in a single season.
