Carfax.com Expands Website to Launch New Online Service
10 Million Online Shoppers Can Locate Local Certified Used Car Dealers

FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 14 -- Carfax.com today announced the
launch of a new service for used car buyers. Starting now, consumers looking
for a used car can log on to the company's website (http://www.Carfax.com) to locate
certified used car dealers in their local area. All of these dealers are
using the Carfax database of over 950 million vehicle records to uncover any
hidden problems in a vehicle's past. Carfax reports reveal potentially costly
and life-threatening problems like salvage history, flood damage, odometer
fraud and manufacturer buybacks. A recent J.D. Power study reported that 26
percent of vehicle consumers buying a used 1994-1999 model-year vehicle use
the Internet to help with their purchase.
"We were searching for a new used car earlier this year and we were
getting really frustrated," said Rick Miale of Asheville, NC. "We saw ads for
used cars in the paper and checked quite a few of them through the Carfax
website. They all came up with hidden problems. Then I noticed the dealer
locator. I put in my zip code and located a Carfax certified dealer just a
few minutes away. I found the perfect car on the dealer's website, and, in a
matter of minutes, had received more information on the car via e-mail.
Needless to say, that car is no longer for sale. It looks great in my
driveway!"
Consumers purchasing cars at one of the 10,000 participating dealers with
Carfax reports that confirm a clean title history automatically receive the
Clean Title History Guarantee worth 10% of the value of their vehicle up to
$1,000. Used car dealers interested in signing up for the Carfax service
should call 1-800-444-0145.
Founded in 1984, Carfax, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Polk Company,
pioneered the concept of used car history reports, and is the leading source
for this vital information. Carfax reports now cover virtually every used car
in the United States with a database of nearly one billion vehicle records.
Consumers and businesses -- car dealers, auto auctions and financial
institutions -- use Carfax Vehicle History Reports to make sure they know as
much as possible about the history of a used car before they buy, sell or
finance. Carfax reports can indicate if a used car has been totaled, in a
flood, classified as a "lemon" or had its odometer rolled back.
