Consumer Comfort and Convenience Breakthroughs Lead Delphi's News at Frankfurt Motor Show
TROY, Mich., Sept. 13 -- Delphi Automotive Systems
will use the Frankfurt Motor Show as its stage to unveil
breakthrough advances in consumer comfort and convenience technologies.
The news, to be announced at Delphi's Frankfurt show exhibit (Stand A24,
Hall 9.0) tomorrow and Wednesday, will be led by Delphi's expansion of its
Communiport(R) Mobile MultiMedia product line.
Three new technologies will be introduced to the Communiport portfolio,
which brings on-board communication, entertainment and information into the
vehicle. The technology introductions are aimed, in part, to make all mobile
multimedia technologies more affordable and more reliable.
Outside the cockpit, Delphi will officially introduce MagneRide(TM), the
industry's most advanced variable damping system. MagneRide will optimize
ride-and-handling performance by providing a Continuously Variable Real-Time
Damping system that can make suspension adjustments at up to 150 times per
second.
Delphi's FOREWARN Adaptive Cruise Control, meanwhile, is a featured
technology on Jaguar's new XKR sports coupe model in Europe. The technology
will help the driver maintain an appropriate distance from the vehicle in
front.
Beyond consumer comfort and convenience, Delphi also will make product
news with enhanced racing technology and broader modular door capabilities.
Another Delphi technology, non-thermal plasma exhaust after-treatment
system, is a finalist for a major industry award to be presented at Frankfurt
on Wednesday. The system will enable diesel, lean-burn and direct-injection
gasoline engines to meet stringent oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emission standards
that are not attainable with current catalytic converters or NOx adsorber
technology.
At Delphi's press conference on Wednesday (6 a.m. ET), Chairman, Chief
Executive Officer and President J.T. Battenberg III also will make several
announcements, including new business, customer programs and a strategic joint
venture.
Delphi previously announced new global airbag business with VW and Opel,
and expanded modular cockpit supply with Mercedes-Benz U.S. International
(MBUSI) to the customer's facility in Graz, Austria.
Delphi also announced that its electric power steering technology,
E-Steer, is featured on Fiat's new Punto. The Punto is the first global-
volume vehicle to have fully electric power steering as standard equipment,
eliminating many traditional components and improving fuel economy,
acceleration and dependability.
All of the technologies mentioned here will be featured at the Frankfurt
Motor Show. Media preview days are Sept. 14-15. The show is open to the
public Sept. 16-26.
