NASCAR WWEST: Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing Capture Pole and Top Ten Finish
11 September 1999
September 11, 1999 (Roseville, CA) - After struggling all day to find the right setup, Sean Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing hooked up and turned in another great performance in Rocky Mountain Raceway's Labor Day Bank One 250. The team captured their second Bud Pole Award for the 1999 season with a qualifying lap of 15.220 seconds, setting the track's first NASCAR Winston West track record. Woodside won his first Bud Pole Award for the 1999 season at Portland Speedway in August. "We made a number of changes during practice, trying to find the combination that would work. Winning the pole was a bonus," Woodside commented. "Thanks to the entire team for their hard work last weekend." With a strong car under him, Woodside ran in the top five for most of the race, and took the lead periodically, taking time out only to pit for tires and fuel. He regained the lead for the final time on lap 235, but spun out after hitting oil left on the track by another car. Woodside finished the race in sixth place, stretching the team's lead in the points standings from 60 to 106 points. Team owner Bill McAnally said, "We were very pleased to have lengthened our points lead but, if you look at the top ten in the points standings, there are several very strong teams within just a few points of each other. Yes, we're moving forward, but we need to keep working hard to win these remaining races." The team's next points event is the Gold Coast 150 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 25, where the team hopes to bring in their second win for the 1999 season. Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) owns and operates the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts/Martin Senour Automotive Finishes/NAPA Filters/California Integrated Waste Management Recycled Oil Program Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Winston West team with Sean Woodside as driver. They are leading the series in the points standings, the Gatorade Front Runner Award, the Clevite Engine Builder Award and Bud Pole Award races, laps led, laps completed and best average finish. Current season results include one win, three top five, eight top ten finishes and two Bud Pole Awards. Woodside finished both the 1997 and 1998 seasons in second place in the Winston West points standings.
