Sentinel Announces Eleven Ounce Welding Helmet; Engineering, Advanced Materials Deliver Superior Product

MENLO PARK, Calif.--Sept. 8, 1999--Sentinel Safety Products, a newly formed Menlo Park, Calif. based company, today announced its first product, the Sentinel(tm) welding helmet. This lightweight, super strong helmet, available from welding supply distributors, is competitively priced at $99.95.
The Sentinel brand helmet is the next generation in welding safety. Weighing in at only 11 ounces with headgear, it is lighter and more flexible than existing helmets--yet burn-through resistant to a scorching 800+ degrees F. It is the world's first welding helmet made with DuPont Kevlar(tm) brand fiber, one of the strongest and most heat resistant materials commercially available. The helmet is also flexible, allowing welders to operate in areas that rigid thermoplastic helmets won't allow them to reach. The Sentinel helmet embodies the first systematic application of sophisticated materials and technology to the welding helmet market.
"Welders demand and deserve comfortable and safe equipment," said Dave Woodward, President of Sentinel, LLC. "We've combined the best materials and the work of leading engineers to deliver a helmet that's a quantum leap ahead of anything else now available."
The Sentinel addresses a long-standing safety problem within the welding industry. According to an April 1999 report by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, welders and cutters were only one of three occupations in which injuries increased for the four year period from 1993 to 1997. Two of the most common injuries and illnesses associated with welding are burns and neck strain and fatigue.
Sentinel addresses these problems through its light weight and exceptional heat resistance. The helmet uses existing models of popular headgear. Five models of fast, sophisticated auto-darkening filters are offered as accessories. In the coming months Sentinel Safety Products will unveil new models and accessories for the Sentinel.
