ON Semiconductor Meets Demanding QS-9000 and ISO-9001 Quality Standards; Former Division of Motorola Achieves Compliance Less Than 30 Days After Launch
PHOENIX--Sept. 8, 1999--Continuing on the foundation of its strong quality heritage as a former division of Motorola, ON Semiconductor Wednesday announced that it has achieved QS-9000 3rd Edition and ISO-9001 compliance in less than 30 days after launching as an independent entity. This achievement reflects ON Semiconductor's dedication and passion to manufacturing the highest quality products. Along with other high volume ICs and components, ON Semiconductor has shipped over 100 million ignition insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBT) to the automotive industry. ON Semiconductor's components make automotive designs safer, more comfortable and environmentally friendly.
Several ON Semiconductor operations in the United States, Europe, Asia and Japan, representing approximately 9,000 employees were audited and certified by an accredited third-party quality systems assessor, Lloyds Registrar Quality Assurance (LRQA). The achievement of this certification has been added to the American Society for Quality (ASQ) database of QS-9000 certified suppliers.
"It is our goal to provide our customers with the confidence to buy from us and to design with us by demonstrating superior processes that lead to consistently meeting our commitments," said Sandra Lowe, former director of quality for ON Semiconductor.
"The foundation of our success is customer satisfaction, customer confidence and continuous improvement. Our quality resolve touches every function and region of our business and is deeply ingrained in every employee."
Sandra Lowe was recently promoted to general manager of the Logic business for ON Semiconductor. Keenan Evans who has been appointed director of quality added, "Quality is a fundamental obsession in everything we do towards customer loyalty. As we establish our own reputation as the premier global supplier of semiconductor components, quality is an essential part of what customers should expect from ON.
"We will never sacrifice quality."
The QS-9000 quality system standard certification of the automotive industry is required by some suppliers of automotive electronic systems. It is a standard that is recognized by Ford, Chrysler, GM, Bosch, Siemens, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes and other automobile manufacturers.
QS-9000 is based on the 1994 edition of ISO 9001, but it contains additional requirements that are particular to the automotive industry.
ISO has been developing voluntary technical standards in almost all sectors of business, industry and technology since 1947. The ISO 9001 Standard is an internationally recognized standard for quality systems, at present comprising the national standards bodies of 91 countries.
Its purpose is to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop cooperation in intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic activity.
