COSTA MESA, Calif.--Sept. 7, 1999--MSC.Software Corp. (MSC) , the world's leading developer of simulation software, Tuesday announced the launch of MSC.NASTRAN for use on the Linux operating system.
The software may be ordered directly from MSC.Software now and will also be available later this month through MSC.Engineering-e.com's recently announced onDemand Licensing Facility, the first vertical application service provider (ASP) developed exclusively for the engineering community.
MSC.NASTRAN for Linux is an integral part of MSC.Software's market strategy to expand its addressable market by including individuals engaged in all engineering activities. These include the growing numbers of independent engineers, entrepreneurs and engineering consultants.
This version will enable these customers to take advantage of cost-effective and scalable Linux solutions with the recognized power of MSC.NASTRAN.
"Our customers have recognized the potential of the Linux market," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer, MSC.Software.
"MSC.Software has a history of leading our industry and is proud to join industry leaders from other markets such as Sun, SGI, HP, DELL and IBM by delivering our flagship product -- MSC.NASTRAN -- to this rapidly expanding and highly passionate Linux user base."

MSC.NASTRAN for Linux may be ordered now through MSC's existing sales channels and later this month through www.Engineering-e.com, the engineer's marketplace on the Web.

    About MSC.NASTRAN

MSC.NASTRAN has long been recognized as the standard in aerospace and automotive industries. Other growing industries such as sports and leisure, medical and consumer electronics are beginning to take advantage of this technology. MSC.NASTRAN is primarily used for computer-aided stress, vibration, heat-transfer, acoustic, and Aeroelasticity analysis.
The Federal Aviation Administration has recognized MSC.NASTRAN as an accepted standard for airframe manufacturers seeking design certification. MSC.Software's products enable engineers to simulate and test designs in a digital environment earlier in the design process, further reducing costs while delivering more reliable and safer products to market faster.

    About Linux

Linux began as a noncommercial, open-source project by Linus Torvalds and hundreds of other programmers. It is a variation of Unix that is expanding in use on servers, desktop computers and even handheld devices.
Linux is popular among technology buffs, and in the last year the operating system has been embraced by many big-name hardware and software companies, and distributors such as Red Hat Inc. .
