Best-Ever August Sales Reported by Lexus Central Area

    CHICAGO, Sept. 3 -- Lexus Central Area dealers posted their
best-ever August by selling 2,923 vehicles, a 12 percent increase over August
1998 when 2,600 were sold.
    The RX300 sport utility vehicle set an all-time record at 1,359 sales, a
29 percent increase over last year.  The RX300 is the number one selling Lexus
vehicle nationally and in the Midwest.
    "Lexus continues to deliver products and services that meet the diverse
needs of our customers," said Nancy Davies, area manager for the Lexus Central
Area.  "A strong economy and even stronger interest in Lexus' comprehensive
line of products helped propel August sales in the Midwest to record levels.
With year-to-date sales of 20,049 versus 15,405 in 1998, the Lexus Central
Area is up 30 percent over last year's record sales."
