S&P Affirms Credit Ratings for Collins & Aikman
    TROY, Mich., Sept. 2 -- Collins & Aikman today
announced that Standard & Poor's Corporation (S&P) has affirmed the Company's
corporate credit rating and has taken Collins & Aikman off its CreditWatch
listing.  Collins & Aikman had previously been placed on CreditWatch by
Standard & Poor's in April, 1999.
    Commenting on both the rating affirmation and the Company's removal from
S&P CreditWatch, Thomas Evans, Chairman and CEO of Collins and Aikman stated,
"We are extremely pleased that S&P has affirmed our corporate credit ratings
and has taken Collins and Aikman off its CreditWatch list.  We believe these
positive actions reflect both the strength of our previously reported 1999
second quarter earnings, as  well as our favorable outlook for continued
growth in Collins and Aikman's operating income and cash flow.  Our entire
management team remains very optimistic in our ability to continue improving
upon our financial performance while providing our customers with industry
leading products."
