Mazda Reports Month-End August Sales

    IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 1 -- Mazda North American Operations
(MNAO) reported U.S. sales today of 22,443 units for the month of August.
    With two national TV spots for the all-new 2000 MPV minivan breaking
September 6, Mazda expects total sales to increase dramatically this fall, as
the MPV accounts for about ten percent of Mazda's sales.  Mazda also expects
sales of its best-selling 626 midsize sedan to increase, as the 2000 model,
due out this fall, features over 70 changes, including sharpened front and
rear styling and sportier, more responsive steering, braking and overall road
feel.
    Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and
marketing, customer parts and service support of Mazda vehicles in the United
States.  Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 750 dealerships
nationwide and is owned by Mazda Motor Corporation, Hiroshima, Japan.
