Nissan Reports August Sales; - The Popular Altima Leads the Division With 13,488 Units Sold in August -GARDENA, Calif., Sept. 1 -- The Nissan Division of Nissan North America, Inc., (NNA) posted sales of 59,248 units in August, down 2.9 percent from a year ago. Calendar year-to-date sales are up 3.5 percent versus last year with 401,868 units sold through August. "As expected, August 1999 sales were off from last year due to the fact that we relied heavily on aggressive incentive programs in 1998," said Jed Connelly, Vice President and General Manager, Nissan Division. "We have some great new vehicles this year and people are taking notice, evidenced by increased showroom traffic and low days' supply of many of these products." Nissan's truck sales were up 26.4 percent versus last year, fueled by the all-new Xterra SUV and Frontier Crew Cab compact truck. Xterra recorded sales of 6,517 units in August while the Frontier Crew Cab had sales of 3,393 units, making up 31.4 percent of the Frontier's total sales of 10,819 units. The Pathfinder had sales of 6,568 units, up 0.5 percent versus last year. The Nissan Quest posted sales of 3,526 units. Altima sales of 13,488 units were up 36.6 percent over last year. The Nissan Maxima had sales of 12,433 units and rounding out the sedans was the Sentra, which recorded sales of 5,839 units in August. Combined sales for Nissan and Infiniti Divisions for August totaled 65,696 units. Combined sales for the calendar year totaled 446,420 units, up 4.7 percent versus last year. Sales of Nissan's North American-produced vehicles totaled 40,218 units in August, which accounted for 67.9 percent of Nissan's total sales volume. In North America, Nissan's operations include styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing.
