Audi Records 59.3 Percent Sales Increase in August -- Best August and Best Year to Date Since 1986

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 1 -- Today, Audi of America, Inc.
announced its August sales results in the U.S. with 6,617 automobiles sold, a
59.3 percent increase over the same month last year when sales were 4,154.
These results mark Audi's best August ever and best year-to-date since 1986
with a 42.7 percent increase over the same period last year (1999 year-to-date
sales are 40,834 versus 28,614 last year).
    Audi's A4, A6 and A8 models enjoyed strong double-digit growth.  A4 sedan
and Avant sales increased 32.2 percent and 38.7 percent respectively.  A6
sedan sales increased 69.4 percent, at the same time that A6 Avant sales moved
up 74.7 percent.  Audi's all-aluminum A8 enjoyed a sales increase of 21.4
percent over the same period last year.
    Audi TT Coupe sales continue to be strong with 604 sold in August.  Since
going on sale, Audi has sold 2,801 of these authentic German sports cars.
    Audi has displayed this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for
over four years, or 55 of the last 57 months.
