Saab Announces Best Sales Month Since August 1987; Saab's U.S. Sales Stretch Over 4,000 Units for Second Straight Month
NORCROSS, Ga., Sept. 1 -- Saab Cars USA, Inc., the U.S.
importer and distributor of Saab 9-3 and 9-5 automobiles, announced sales of
4,044 units during August 1999, a 25.2 percent increase over August 1998 sales
(3,229 units). This is the first time that Saab has posted back-to-back
monthly sales of over 4,000 units since August 1987. Through the first eight
months of 1999, Saab's sales are up 39.5 percent over the same period last
year (26,815 vs. 19,224).
Saab sold 2,594 Saab 9-3 models in August, including 679 9-3 Convertibles
and 1,482 entry level 9-3 models. The entry level 9-3 model represents Saab's
excellent value by providing such standard equipment as a 2.0L 4-cylinder
185 horsepower turbocharged engine, driver and passenger front- and side-
impact airbags, Saab's whiplash risk-reducing active head restraint system
(SAHR), 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, 15-inch light alloy wheels, power
windows, locks, mirrors and more.
Sales of the Saab 9-5 also remained solid as a total of 1,417 units were
retailed in August. Included in this total are sales of the new 9-5 Wagon,
which posted its second straight 500-unit month. The 9-5 Wagon is lauded for
its combination of sports sedan-like ride and handling, outstanding cargo
carrying versatility and Saab's high level of safety.
