Motorola and I-Logix Extend Successful Alliance to Shorten Development Cycle For Automotive ECUsI-Logix to Support Motorola's OSEK 2.0 Product Family ANDOVER, Mass., Sept. 1 -- Following the successful completion of a joint OSEK development project, I-Logix Inc. and Motorola today announced the extension of their agreement to develop software which will provide automotive engineers with the ability to design their applications using graphical languages such as Statecharts and automatically generate OSEK-compliant production quality C code. OSEK (Open Systems and the Corresponding Interfaces for Automotive Electronics) is an emerging automotive industry standard supporting an open architecture for electronic control units (ECUs) in vehicles. Under the agreement, I-Logix will enhance its production code generation technology to support Motorola's unique Windows NT(TM) version of OSEK 2.0. Application code that is developed for OSEK NT is designed to be the same application code that runs in the target hardware. This technology, along with I-Logix' widely used Statemate(R) MAGNUM(TM) System Specification product, will offer an integrated development process for automotive ECUs and is expected to be made available later this year. These new enhancements will allow engineers to design more robust software architectures for automotive ECUs, while maintaining a very small footprint for the RTOS (Real Time Operating System). Moreover, the software designer will be able to design and debug code while sitting at a PC before the target ECU is even available, resulting in more rapid development and shorter time- to-market. In an effort to provide automotive manufacturers with the best possible design environment for ECUs utilizing the OSEK standard, I-Logix and Motorola initially undertook an OSEK-based proof-of-concept project with DaimlerChrysler. This successful project demonstrated the ability to automate the code generation phase of ECU software development, thus shifting designers' time from manual coding to software design. "Our alliance with Motorola has enabled our companies to make a strong impact on the automotive industry's specification and design process as this industry faces increasingly complex product requirements, faster turnaround needs, and a tightening market for software developers," said Gene Robinson, president and CEO of I-Logix Inc. "We are extremely pleased with the vote of confidence we have received from both Motorola and the automotive industry in our ability to help engineers produce more competitive features in a rapid, cost-effective manner, and in compliance with the strict automotive requirements for memory size and style guides." "I-Logix has been a key ally for Motorola to work with in ensuring the best support possible to our customers using Motorola's OSEK," said Scott Anderson, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola's Transportation Systems Group. "With the growing acceptance of OSEK by the automotive industry, it's crucial to work together and develop the best package of support in order to be successful in this market." About I-Logix I-Logix is a venture-backed, privately owned software company dedicated to providing enterprise solutions for real-time embedded applications development. I-Logix' solutions enable embedded engineers to meet the dual demands of time-to-market compression and exponential increase in application complexity. I-Logix' products allow engineers to graphically model the behavior and functionality of embedded systems, analyze and validate the behavior through simulation and animation, and automatically generate target- deployable application code directly from the graphical model. I-Logix' technology supports the entire design flow, from concept to code, across an enterprise, through an iterative approach called ROPES(TM) (Rapid Object-Oriented Process for Embedded Systems), or through a customer's own process. I-Logix' solutions enable users to accelerate new product development, increase competitiveness, and generate quantifiable time and cost savings. Founded in 1987, the company is headquartered in the U.S., with direct sales offices in North America and Europe, and distributors in Asia. I-Logix focuses on six vertical markets consisting of aerospace/defense, transportation, telecommunications/networking, consumer electronics/office automation, medical devices, and industrial automation.
