AutoZone Completes Chief ConversionsMEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 31 -- AutoZone, Inc. announced that the final Chief Auto Parts store to be converted to an AutoZone store was completed Saturday, August 28. Since acquiring Chief Auto Parts in June 1998, AutoZone has relocated or converted 358 Chief stores in California, Nevada, Tennessee and Texas. Three of the eight remaining Chief stores will be closed and five will be relocated in the near future. "Thanks to some outstanding efforts by our AutoZoners, we've completed the accelerated conversion plan right on schedule," said John C. Adams, Jr., AutoZone's chairman and chief executive officer. "We're thrilled to have all of these stores operating as full-fledged AutoZones and we're encouraged by the early results in these locations." As of August 28, 1999, AutoZone sells auto and light truck parts, chemicals and accessories through 2,711 stores in 39 states in the U.S. and 6 stores in Mexico. AutoZone also sells heavy-duty truck parts through 46 TruckPro stores in 14 states, and automotive diagnostic and repair software through ALLDATA.
