Ride For Kids raises more than $104,000 in New York
1 September 1999
Ride for Kids enthusiasts raised over $104,000 on August 1 in beautiful Harriman State Park on a very warm, New York-style Sunday. Launched led by the NY State Police and additional police from the surrounding communities, riders traveled down the twisty Palisades Parkway to the Village of Piermont. By the time the motorcycles arrived at the Village of Piermont, the temperature had climbed to 100 degrees! Once under the tent at the Celebration of Life, the riders were touched by the story of Liam Reda, whose family spoke of the loss of their son in February 1999 to the deadly disease of pediatric brain tumors. As one of the participants at the event said through his tears, "there is no one here tough enough to not be touched by that." Fortunately, research progress is being in the fight to find a cure - in spite of these family tragedies. Congratulations to top fund raisers Ed and Brigitte Pugliese who brought in $25,700 to pay for more research. GWRRA New York Chapter S brought a whopping $28,510. The top dealer was Prestige Harley Davidson with $6,755. Congratulations to Tricia Seacord and all the task force volunteers for increasing the funds raised in 1998 by more than $30,000! ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Three weeks later on Sunday, August 22, 300 Ride for Kids motorcyclists braved the elements to turn in over $61,000 in donations on a cold, damp morning in the New England Ride for Kids near North Oxford, Massachusetts. With visions of a heroic Paul Revere inspired by the wooded, winding roads along the 45-mile route, riders from virtually every state in the northeast and New England attended this special day of giving. Jim Naughton of Milford, PA was the Top Fund Raiser with $5,142 collected. Top Chapter honors went to the Connecticut Retreads with $14,642 turned in. The Top Dealership was Libby's Honda of New Haven, CT with $9,329. An excited Cheryl Hrasna of Bedford, NH was the lucky winner of a new Honda motorcycle donated by American Honda. Watch for a report soon on the recently-conducted Ride for Kids in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Sunday, August 29.
