BOSS Systems Debuts ScanSoft Suite'Data collection solution can exceed standard ERP Return On Investment by as much as 50%' ScanSoft Data Collection Software -- BOSS Systems, Bloomfield Hills, MI BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Aug. 30 -- BOSS Systems will debut its new ScanSoft suite of data collection software applications at Auto Tech 99, Cobo Conference Center, Detroit, MI (August 31-September 2). ScanSoft is an AIAG-compliant RF data collection system that employs numerous technology standards for compliance with any ERP, or legacy IT system. Studies indicate solutions that bridge existing legacy IT systems, with the migration or conversion to new ERP systems, can yield a 50% increase in ROI over a traditional ERP migration. The ScanSoft communication architecture uses TCP/IP protocols from RF devices, including RF/ID tags, to communicate with mobile truck-mount and hand held terminals. "This common framework for the ScanSoft application software, on the plant floor, allows for Standard interfaces to be deployed between the shipping application and the Host-based ERP shipping module," said Kerry Hartley, President, BOSS Systems. "ScanSoft applications include real time R/F-based truck mount terminals for Receiving, Work in Process, Shipping, and Pallet or container tracking." ScanSoft utilizes the FormScape(R) enterprise output management system for generation of documents from legacy or ERP output. FormScape(R) was chosen for its flexibility to deliver routing, distribution, multiple bar codes (linear and 2-D), and digital output management (e.g., fax, e-mail, PDF, HTML, XML, EDI, Archive/COLD, etc.). Document output can be driven from within ScanSoft, from the Host ERP system (e.g., SAP, QAD, JD Edwards, et al.), or the existing IT legacy application. Hartley commented, "We employ a scaleable document output system for printing and managing all compliance document output, including label production, packing slips, and shipping documentation." ScanSoft's printing architecture enables Microsoft's DNA-M (Distributed Network Architecture for Manufacturing), ODBC, OLE, and connects to any SQL- compliant database. The ScanSoft database can integrate with a wide range of database platforms.
