Tracks: Forrette takes first win of 1999 to the Bank at Lebanon Valley

29 August 1999

WEST LEBANON, NY- Maynard Forrette took home the win Saturday night in the
30-lap modified feature. Wayne Jelley was the winner of the 20-lap sportsman
feature. Chris Morris grabbed the win in the 20-lap Street Stock main. Kevin
Buff won his first career IMCA modified feature. Berkshire Bank and TNT Sales
sponsored the night's racing events.

The modified feature certainly had its share of caution flags Saturday
night. Maynard Forrette grabbed the lead right from the start of the 30-lap
modified feature. The full moon seemed to be playing havoc with the race as
the drivers were bouncing off each other quite often. The most serious
incident of the race came on lap eight when eleven cars piled up on the
frontstretch. Four of the top five cars in the modified point standings were
involved in the wreck. Forrette was able to stay out in front on the restart
with Ronnie Johnson in tow. Dickie Larkin got around Al Narzynski for the
fourth spot on lap eleven. Hewitt was able to also get around Narzynski on
take fifth on lap 12.

Jody Tornabene spun out in turn two on a lap 13 restart. Eddie Marshall
would bring out the caution with a turn three spin on lap 15. Kenny Tremont
was one of the cars that were caught up in the lap eight incident. Problems
from the wreck would force Tremont to slow on lap 17 and eventually go
pitside for several laps. Forrette was strong on the front of the field; he
opened up a ten-car advantage by lap 25. Jeff Heotzler was on hand for the
evening. He came back from the lap eight melee to run ninth by lap 25.

Forrette motored on for his first win of the 1999 season. Johnson came in
second, Larkin third, Hewitt fourth and Rob Pitcher fifth. The point's race
is starting to heat up. Dwyer took the hardest hit in the point standings; he
is just three points ahead of J.R. Heffner with one race remaining.

Capital Speed Equipment put up $1,000 to win the sportsman feature as Joe
Bennett was looking to take his first sportsman feature. He led fourteen laps
of the feature before Wayne Jelley took command of the race. Going into the
night's feature Art Collins was two points ahead of George Marcus in the
overall point standings. Watching the race within the race Collins sat
seventh on lap six while Marcus was back in 17th. The race remained caution
free as we hit the halfway point. Bennett was leading with Jelley second,
Mike Boomhower third, Sparky Lowe fourth and Eddie Riiska fifth.

Lowe took over third on lap eleven. Collins challenged Bennett in the
final stages of the race and took over second in the final stages. Jelley had
checked out from the pack as the race went green to checker.

Kirk Stanaway was the early race leader in the 20-lap street stock
feature. Chris Morris made the pass for the lead on lap three and Al
Blackburn came from fourth to second on the same lap. Robbie Speed dropped
from the race with mechanical difficulties on lap five. Adam Haas exploded a
power plant on lap eight. The top five at the halfway point was Morris, Al
Blackburn, David Sanchez, Ricky Duzlak and Dave Kokindo.

The top two broke away from the rest of the pack by lap 17. Blackburn
looked to challenge Morris in the final two laps, but a caution flag on lap
19 thwarted that from happening. Morris was able to hang on for his second
win of the 1999 season. Blackburn came home second with Lagenback third,
Sanchez fourth and Bob Miller rounded out the top five.

The 15-lap IMCA modified feature had quite a problem getting started. The
caution flag flew three times in the early laps, forcing officials to make
the field go single file. Current point leader, Jim Rajczi was involved in
one of the early race incidents, but got all the way back up to fifth by lap
eight. Rajczi's bad luck would continue when he got spun out on lap nine.
Kevin Buff held the lead from start to finish to record his first career IMCA
feature. He was followed across the line Jeff Carr, Brian Wilbur, Tom Faxon
and Bill Lander.
