CASCAR: Gibbons wins pole for UAP/NAPA presents C.A.G. 250 km at Mosport

BOWMANVILLE, ON Peter Gibbons will start from pole position in Sundays UAP/NAPA presents C.A.G. 250 km at Mosport International Speedway after posting the fastest time in qualifying Saturday. The Stouffville, ON driver put in a lap of one minute, 32.163 seconds in his Canadian Tire Chevrolet Monte Carlo to edge Oakville, ONs Robin Buck for the top grid spot for Sundays race, the third round of the CASCAR Castrol Super Series national championship. Buck turned a best lap of one minute, 32.271 seconds in the UAP/NAPA Pontiac Grand Prix to claim the outside starting spot on the front row. Gibbons and Buck also earned the wins in the pair of 25-minute heat races that determined the remainder of the starting line-up for Sundays race. Gibbons led all 16 laps of the opening heat and beat the Blue Streak Hygrade Motor Products Dodge Avenger of Thornton, ONs Al Turner by 10.225 seconds. Pete Vanderwyst of London, ON was third in the Loctite Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Turner, however, was disqualified for a suspension problem with his car and moved to the back of Sundays 30-car starting grid. Buck took the lead from Hamilton racer Don Thomson Jr. two laps from the end of the second heat race and scored a 1.170-sec. victory over Thomsons Home Hardware Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Kerry Micks of Mt. Albert, ON was third in his Ford Fastlane Ford Taurus. With his heat win Gibbons unofficially took over the CASCAR Castrol Super Series national points lead. Sundays UAP/NAPA presents Canadian Auction Group 250 km will get the green flag at 2:00 pm. An autograph session will be held at 12:30 pm.
