J&L Specialty Steel Receives Prestigious Ford Q1 Award
    PITTSBURGH, Aug. 26 -- J&L Specialty Steel, Inc.'s Midland,
Pa., plant today was presented the Ford Motor Company Q1 quality
award in recognition of its superior quality stainless steels used in Ford
automotive exhaust system products.
    The Ford Q1 plaque and flag were officially presented to J&L management
and union representatives in a ceremony at the company's plant in Beaver
County by Richard W. Karagitz, Ford STA (Supplier Technical Assistance)
representative.  Eugene A. Salvadore, J&L's President and CEO, Joseph
Piccioni, Midland Plant Manager, and Ron Friess, USWA Local 1212 president,
accepted the flag and plaque on behalf of the company and the Midland plant
employees.
    Ford Q1 requirements include the industry-recognized quality indicator
QS-9000, Quality System Analysis and a Quality Operation System, customer
endorsements, consistent delivery ratings and final on-site review.
    "We are extremely proud to have received the Ford Q1 quality award," Mr.
Salvadore said.  "This quality award indicates a strong relationship between
J&L and Ford.  Receiving this award gives all of us at J&L the satisfaction of
knowing that our performance is serving the needs of a valued customer."
    In addition to its QS-9000 certification, J&L is also certified under ISO
9001.
