I-Logix Launches Statemate Intro

25 August 1999

I-Logix Launches Statemate Intro, a Robust, Aggressively Priced Specification Product for Designing Features and Components of a System
New Product Addresses the Need for Incremental Feature Designs and Offers
Seamless Upgrade Path to Statemate Magnum 2.0

ANDOVER, Mass., Aug. 25 -- Building on the success of its
market-leading system specification solution, Statemate(R) MAGNUM(TM), I-Logix
Inc. today introduced Statemate INTRO, a high-value, aggressively priced, and
easy-to-use product offering robust features specification functionality with
the ability to exchange data, and seamlessly upgrade to Statemate MAGNUM 2.0.
Statemate INTRO addresses the incremental nature of many automotive and
aerospace embedded system designs. In contrast to limited statechart tools
available from other vendors, Statemate INTRO provides embedded systems
engineers with the ability to define the context (Interfaces) of the larger
system being designed and to perform functional decomposition using an
activity chart. Statemate INTRO uniquely enables the user to describe very
complex state-machines by using multi-page statecharts. Moreover, users can
create software testbenches with Statemate INTRO that allow them to test the
behavior, and later to test the implementation of the design, to ensure that
it meets specifications. A typical user scenario would be to graphically
define a feature's behavior and functionality, simulating the feature to
ensure it is specified correctly, while capturing test cases that are used to
verify the implementation. The user can also automatically generate a
specification document using Microsoft Word(R).
"With Statemate INTRO, I-Logix has addressed a critical need in the
embedded systems market for an affordable, yet highly functional solution for
incorporating new features into an existing design," said Pedro Zayas,
embedded systems analyst and consultant at Venture Development Corporation,
Natick, MA. "Our research clearly shows OEMs are eager to evaluate and adopt
design automation technologies but are deterred by the high price points these
tools typically exhibit and by the lack of flexibility to merge new designs
based on these technologies with legacy software. Because Statemate MAGNUM
and Statemate INTRO are completely compatible, embedded systems designers can
purchase Statemate INTRO as a standalone product to design features, and then
easily incorporate these features into the overall system design using
Statemate MAGNUM, thus providing them with maximum flexibility and value."
In the automotive market, up to 80 percent of the embedded systems in a
car are not completely redesigned but rather get new, incremental features
added to them, such as an air conditioning feature added to a climate control
system. In these cases, the systems engineer does not have to create a
specification for the entire system, but does need to detail the
functionality, behavior, interfaces, and test cases at the feature or
component level. Statemate INTRO allows the systems engineer the flexibility
to integrate the new feature into a Statemate MAGNUM system specification or
keep it as a stand-alone specification. Statemate INTRO also allows the user
to detect errors in the specification prior to implementation, when changes
are least expensive. Its formal graphical notation eliminates ambiguity and
improves communication between the system engineer and the software, hardware,
and test engineers. This leads to fewer errors, less rework, and shorter
time-to-market.
"With the introduction of Statemate INTRO, we are further demonstrating
our understanding of our customers' needs and our commitment to meet them,"
said Gene Robinson, I-Logix' president and CEO. "Unlike other statechart
tools, Statemate INTRO allows users to handle greater complexity in their
designs, providing them with the robust functionality they require to specify
features, and the ability to seamlessly upgrade to Statemate MAGNUM 2.0 when
they need to specify the complete system."

    Pricing and Availability
Statemate INTRO, available now, is priced at $7,995 for an individual PC
license and provides support for Windows NT.

    About I-Logix
I-Logix is a venture-backed, privately owned software company dedicated to
providing enterprise solutions for real-time embedded applications
development. I-Logix' solutions enable embedded engineers to meet the dual
demands of time-to-market compression and exponential increase in application
complexity. I-Logix' products allow engineers to graphically model the
behavior and functionality of embedded systems, analyze and validate the
behavior through simulation and animation, and automatically generate
target-deployable application code directly from the graphical model.
I-Logix' technology supports the entire design flow, from concept to code,
across an enterprise, through an iterative approach called ROPES(TM)
(Rapid Object-Oriented Process for Embedded Systems), or through a customer's
own process. I-Logix' solutions enable users to accelerate new product
development, increase competitiveness and generate quantifiable time and cost
savings.
Founded in 1987, the company is headquartered in the U.S., with direct
sales offices in North America and Europe, and distributors in Asia. I-Logix
focuses on six vertical markets consisting of aerospace/defense,
transportation, telecommunications/networking, consumer electronics/office
automation, medical devices and industrial automation. I-Logix can be found
