Seagate Deploys Metaphase Enterprise in North America with Plans for Pacific Rim Implementation

    CINCINNATI--Aug. 24, 1999--

Data Storage Leader Uses Metaphase Software to Speed Product
Innovation, Time-to-Market Through Global Access to Design Data

SDRC , a leading global supplier of enterprise product development solutions and developer of I-DEAS(R) and Metaphase(R) Enterprise(TM) software, today announced that Seagate Technology has successfully deployed SDRC's market-leading Metaphase product data management (PDM) software throughout its North American disc drive development centers to help speed product innovation and time-to-market. Seagate, a leading supplier of technology and products that allow individuals to store, access and manage information, has currently invested over $1 million in SDRC's Metaphase Enterprise PDM software.
"Metaphase gives Seagate global communication tools that enable us to shorten our overall time to market, which is a critical function of maintaining our industry leadership" said Pete Diepersloot, Seagate senior engineering director of Engineering Information Systems. "Seagate's global deployment of Metaphase Enterprise helps our employees collaborate more easily on product design, and gain access to the information they need, when they need it."
Through a phased implementation, Seagate will use Metaphase Enterprise as its single source for product data, managing product structures, documents, configurations and change control processes. This allows Seagate to improve global access to design information and ensure that the right design data is available to users throughout the enterprise any time they need it. Metaphase facilitates global collaboration at Seagate by providing consistent and easy access to product design, re-engineering and engineering automation processes. Several Seagate North American sites are already in production with Metaphase software, and plans are moving forward to go on-line soon in the Pacific Rim.
"SDRC is pleased that Metaphase Enterprise supports Seagate's requirement for fast worldwide sharing of product data to speed innovation," said Ron Schmitz, vice president, Metaphase Marketing and Product Planning. "Metaphase Enterprise enhances the rapid data exchange that is crucial for companies in sectors driven by quick-turnaround design improvements, such as the high-technology electronics sector."
