Dick Macedo to be Honored by Muscular Dystrophy Association; Beverly Hills Gala Set for Saturday, Aug. 28
    IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 24 -- Dick Macedo, executive vice
president of marketing and sales for Kia Motors America, has been named one of
the "Men of the 90s" by the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  Macedo will be
honored at the 26th annual Jerry Lewis Pre-Telethon Extravaganza to be held
this Saturday at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
    Macedo was a key architect of Kia's U.S. marketing and sales activities
that have made the brand one of the fastest-growing in North America.  He was
promoted to his current position in April 1998, having originally joined the
company in 1993 as director of marketing.  Kia has grown from four dealers to
540 today, and sales have increased from 12,163 in 1994 to an estimated
140,000 in 1999.
    Prior to joining Kia, Macedo served six years as president of Wells Rich
Greene BDDP/West in Los Angeles.  From 1985 until 1987, Macedo was executive
vice president and general manager of Williams Esty/West and the account
director on the Nissan account.  During the three years Macedo directed Nissan
advertising campaigns, vehicle sales in the U.S. reached an all-time high.
    Macedo's automotive marketing experience also includes serving as senior
corporate executive on the Chevrolet advertising account at Campbell-Ewald
from 1982 to 1985.  At Campbell-Ewald, Macedo was responsible for managing all
aspects of Chevrolet's $300 million account.
    Macedo's advertising experience also includes working with J. Walter
Thompson, where he served in several senior-level management positions.  From
1979-82, Macedo was senior vice president and general manager of the Los
Angeles office.  From 1975-80, he served as senior vice president and account
director on the Kawasaki and several Ford dealer advertising associations.
    Macedo began his advertising and marketing career in 1963 at
McCann-Erickson as a media trainee.  Prior to leaving McCann-Erickson in 1969,
Macedo was promoted through the company to associate media director.
    A graduate of San Jose State University, Macedo majored in marketing and
advertising and completed a senior management program at the University of
Chicago.  Macedo served as the president of the Advertising Club of Los
Angeles in 1989-90, and was on the board of directors for the American
Advertising Federation.  In 1998 he was named to the Advertising Age Marketing
100.
