    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 23 -- Lear Corporation
today announced the formation of a new division, Lear Electronics and
Electrical Division (LEED), and the appointment of seasoned professionals to
the division's leadership team to support the continued growth of the
business.

    LEED is based in Dearborn, Michigan (USA) and specializes in the
manufacturing and development of electronic product and vehicle wiring
architecture, as well as the integration of these products into automotive
interior systems.  The division produces such automotive products as smart
junction boxes, mechatronic switches, body control modules and remote keyless
entry for automakers around the world.
    D. William Pumphrey has been appointed LEED President, reporting to
Douglas D. DelGrosso, Lear Senior Vice President and President -- North
American Operations.
    Pumphrey joined Lear in 1999 as Vice President of Sales & Marketing for
Lear's Chrysler Division.  He previously had worked at United Technologies
Automotive (UTA) since 1991 in such positions as Manager of Business Strategy
& Development, Program Manager, and Vice President of the DaimlerChrysler
Customer Team.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Kenyon
College in Ohio and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the
University of Michigan.  Pumphrey and his wife, Julie, reside in Brighton,
Michigan with their daughter.
    Lear also announced the appointment of the team of executives who will
assist Pumphrey in managing LEED and will report to him.  In support of Lear's
focus on customer service, Lear has appointed four executives to direct LEED's
business with the automotive manufacturers that make up Lear's global customer
base.  Steve Leggett is appointed Vice President -- Ford Customer Team, with
responsibility for all LEED business with Ford Motor Company.  Tim McAndrew is
appointed Vice President -- General Motors Customer Team with responsibility
for all LEED business with General Motors Corporation.  Ron Trefzer is
appointed Vice President -- DaimlerChrysler Customer Team with responsibility
for all LEED business with DaimlerChrysler.  Tony Schultz is appointed
Director -- International Customer Team, with responsibility for all LEED
business with Asian manufacturers in North America.
    The company also announced the appointment of the executives who will
direct various operational and administrative areas for LEED, also reporting
to Pumphrey.  Sam Henry is appointed Vice President -- Operations for LEED,
with responsibility for LEED operations including plants in the U.S., Mexico
and Philippines.  Dean Jones is appointed Vice President -- Engineering with
responsibility for electronic and electrical engineering and development of
products.  Jeffrey Mann is appointed Vice President -- Finance for LEED and is
responsible for all LEED finance activity.  David Maxwell is appointed Vice
President -- Human Resources for LEED, with responsibility for personnel and
human resources.  Bryan Sava is appointed Vice President -- Service and
Aftermarket Operations, with additional responsibility for new business
ventures.  Mark Ritz is appointed Director -- Marketing & Business
Development, with responsibility for the strategic development of LEED's
business and marketing plans.  Sandra Skinner is appointed Director --
Quality & Continuous Improvement, with responsibility for incorporating
continuous improvement strategies and leading the total quality management
initiative for LEED.
    Henry joined Lear in February 1998 as Director -- Sales and Marketing for
Lear's Asia Pacific Operations and most recently was Managing Director of Lear
Australia.  He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from
Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a Bachelor of Science
degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in
Southfield, Michigan, and a Masters of Business Administration degree from
Michigan State University's Advanced Management Program.  Henry and his wife,
Karen, reside in Rochester Hills, Michigan, with their two children.
    Jones joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he served as Product Business
Leader for the Body Electronics product line.  Prior to joining UTA he held
professional engineering positions in product and electronic engineering with
Chrysler, Ford and Rockwell.  Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
Electrical Engineering from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and a
Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Detroit.
Jones and his wife, Marika, reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with their two
children.
    Leggett joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he most recently served as
Vice President of the General Motors Customer Team.  Leggett's background
includes experience in electrical systems, interiors and strategic planning.
He earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters of Business
Administration degree in Marketing from Indiana University in Bloomington,
Indiana.  Leggett and his wife, Judi, reside in Farmington Hills, Michigan,
and have two daughters.
    Mann joined Lear in 1997 as Director of Finance for the company's South
American operations.  He most recently was Director of Internal Audit based at
Lear World Headquarters in Southfield, Michigan.  Mann earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Economics from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey,
a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia Business School in New
York, New York, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State University in
Detroit, Michigan.  A member of the Michigan Bar Association, Mann is a
resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan.
    Maxwell joined Lear in November 1994 as Human Resources Manager for Lear's
General Motors Division and most recently was Vice President -- Human
Resources for the General Motors Division.  Maxwell's 20 years of experience
in the automotive industry also includes management positions with Venture
Industries and ACCO Industries.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Business and English from Albion College in Albion, Michigan.  Maxwell resides
in Troy, Michigan, with his wife, Kay, and their son.
    McAndrew joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he most recently served as
Vice President of the International Customer Team.  He has extensive
experience in international business development from his 11 years with UTA.
He earned a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from Walsh College in Troy,
Michigan and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University
of Detroit.  McAndrew and his wife, Debbie, reside in Grosse Ile, Michigan,
with their three children.
    Ritz joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he most recently held
leadership positions in sales, marketing and strategic planning.  He is the
former Director -- Marketing & Business Development and has more than 25 years
of experience in the automotive industry with such companies as Ford, Bendix
Electronics and Siemens Automotive.  Ritz earned a Bachelor of Science degree
in Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, a Masters of
Science degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,
Michigan, and a Masters in Business Administration degree from Harvard
Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  He and his wife, Lee Gorman,
reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
    Sava joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he most recently served as
acting Vice President of the Electrical and Electronics Group.  He also is the
former Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of British Tire and Rubber's
North American Division.  Sava earned a Bachelor of Accounting degree from
Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts and a Masters of Business
Administration degree from Western New England College in Springfield,
Massachusetts.  He and his wife, Joanne, reside in Franklin, Michigan, and
have one son.
    Schultz joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he most recently served as
Program Manager for the Honda business on the International Customer Team.
Schultz began his career with UTA in 1994 and has held progressively
responsible positions in finance and accounting.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Accounting/Business Administration from Malone College in Canton,
Ohio and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Delta College in
Cleveland, Mississippi.  Schultz and his wife, Gina, reside in Ann Arbor,
Michigan, with their two daughters.
    Skinner joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where she most recently served as
Director of Manufacturing Engineering.  Skinner earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in
Houghton, Michigan and a Masters of Science degree in Industrial Engineering
from Wayne State University.  Currently she is pursuing a Masters degree in
Business Administration from the University of Michigan.  Skinner resides in
St. Clair Shores, Michigan, with her husband, Michael.
    Trefzer joined Lear in May 1999 from UTA where he most recently was
Program Manager for the DaimlerChrysler Customer Team.  His UTA background
also includes experience in sales and program management for the Ford and
Chrysler accounts.  Trefzer earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in
Marketing from St. Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama.  He and his wife,
Darlene, reside in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.
