UAW-Ford Members Approve Strike Authorization
DETROIT, Aug. 23 -- UAW members at Ford Motor Company have
voted by a 96.4 percent majority to authorize the UAW International Executive
Board to call a strike against Ford if deemed necessary. Holding a strike
authorization vote in advance of the expiration of a collective bargaining
agreement is standard UAW procedure.
"The tremendous turnout and overwhelming majority vote clearly reflect the
solidarity and unity of the UAW-Ford membership across America," said UAW Vice
President Ron Gettelfinger, who directs the UAW Ford Department.
The UAW represents approximately 101,000 production and skilled trades
workers at Ford facilities in the U.S.
