Visteon Rear Seat Entertainment Reaches new Heights for Sport Utility Vehicles
DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 23 -- Visteon Automotive Systems is
taking its Rear Seat Entertainment System to a new level -- literally. Based
on the success of Visteon's Rear Seat Entertainment System console version
which was launched earlier this summer for minivan applications, the company
is launching an overhead version of the system designed for Sport Utility
Vehicles (SUVs).
The new overhead system is being launched to Ford and Lincoln Mercury
dealers nationwide first. Consumers may request this exciting and affordable
add-on option for their Ford Explorer and Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and
Mercury Mountaineer SUVs. By the end of the year, new and current owners of
Dodge, Chevrolet, GMC and Jeep SUVs will be able to put their family on the
path to excitement.
The overhead system adds a television tuner and antenna, while also
including the high-quality features found in the console version -- namely a
6.4" LCD hide-away screen, videocassette recorder and a Nintendo 64 game
system. The suggested retail price of the system is $1,849.
"Keeping a driver's eyes on the road, and the kids entertained in the
backseat is one of the latest trends and necessities in automotive travel --
both for local commuting and long-distance vacations," said David Peace, vice
president of Visteon Global Aftermarket Operations. "The Visteon Rear Seat
Entertainment System acts as an extension of the family room, allowing kids of
all ages to watch movies, play games or tune into local TV stations."
The Visteon Rear Seat Entertainment System is the only entertainment unit
of its kind that comes with a Nintendo(R) 64 game system. The system is
loaded with the highest quality features consumers have been asking for,
including:

-- High-quality resolution 6.4" LCD automotive grade screen offering
clarity with adjustable brightness for all types of lighting conditions, and
durability through rough in-vehicle environmental conditions.
-- VHS videocassette recorder with integrated TV tuner.
-- Superior design with a hidden, flip-down screen for theft deterrence
and a smoother interior appearance.
-- Ceiling-mounted system creates the look and feel of an original
equipment accessory.
-- Sound flows through the vehicle's speakers, or headphones for more
driver peace-of-mind.
-- Wireless headphones are available as an option (suggested retail price
is $49 each).

In May, Visteon introduced its console version of the Rear Seat
Entertainment System for minivan applications. Sales of this system have
gradually taken off as more than 5,000 units are in the marketplace today.
"This is an exciting innovation in mobile electronics and having Nintendo
partner with us is the icing on the cake," Peace added. "Nintendo has built
an extremely popular and respected brand name in the entertainment industry
and the ability to offer a Nintendo(R) 64 game system certainly enhances the
Rear Seat Entertainment System's consumer appeal."
On new SUVs, the Rear Seat Entertainment System can be installed by a
dealer the same day and comes with the same-as-vehicle warranty. In addition,
the cost of the system can be amortized, allowing buyers to spread out the
payments with the vehicle's financing. The system can also be residualized on
Red Carpet Leases for new Ford Windstars and Mercury Villagers.
Residualization means that the overall cost of the system is spread out over
the terms of the lease so parents pay only for the length of time they own the
vehicle making this an affordable option.
