Tracks: Tremont has the Parts Plus for 13th win at Lebanon Valley

23 August 1999

WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont took home his thirteenth win of the season at
Lebanon Valley Saturday night. Art Collins took home the 20-lap sportsman
feature. Henry Tanner won the 15-lap Street Stock feature and Jeff Carr won
the 15-lap IMCA modified feature.

Rob Pitcher took command of the 30-lap modified feature from his front
row starting spot. The first caution of the race came out on lap seven when
Tim Dywer hopped a wheel and hit the turn two wall. Problems on Donnie
Corellis's car would see him make a pitstop under the caution flag. Kenny
Tremont moved all the way up to seventh on the restart. Matt Quinn has come
back to race at the Valley after being out of racing for awhile. His maiden
voyage in his new mount ended on lap ten with mechanical problems.

The top three cars of Pitcher, Russ Reckner and Eddie Marshall had pulled
away from the pack by the halfway point of the race. Tremont had moved up
into fourth on lap 14 and looked to reel in the leaders. The front runner
began to encounter lapped traffic by lap 18. The caution came out on lap 18
as four cars piled into turn one. The allowed Tremont to catch the top three
and he pressured Marshall for third on the restart.

Reckner dropped to fourth on lap 21 when he drifted high in turn four.
Marshall and Tremont were both able to get around the drifting Reckner. The
Ricci brother ran a consistent race. Mike and Rich battled each other for
seventh throughout the latter portion of the race. Mike Ricci took over sixth
on lap 23 as the battle for the win began to heat up. As the race began to
reach its conclusion the leaders started to encounter lapped traffic.
The traffic was very heavy as the field took the white flag. Going into turn
three, Pitcher had to check up to avoid a slower car. Marshall put his
racecar underneath Pitcher and Tremont tried to thread his way between the
both of them. Tremont was able to wedge his way passed both Pitcher and
Marshall and squeaked out the win by a nose over Marshall. Pitcher had to
settle for third, with Reckner having a good run in fourth. Brian Berger came
home in the fifth position.

Art Collins wasted little time taking command of the 20-lap sportsman
feature. He took over the lead from Frank Harper on lap five, right before a
rash of caution flags on lap six and seven. Stan Jablonka had taken over
second and started to pressure Collins for the lead on lap eleven. Wayne
Jelley and Sparky Lowe raced together for fourth on lap 14, with Jelley taken
the spot at the end of the race. Collins was able to hold off all of
Jablonka's advances and took home the victory. Jablonka came home second,
David Sanchez came in third, Jelley fourth and Lowe rounded out the top five.
Chris Morris took the lead at the start of the 20-lap street stock feature.
Two caution flags slowed the field in the early portion of the race. Al
Blackburn looked to have a fast racecar, but he got spun out on lap six. The
ninth lap would see a three-way battle for the fourth spot between Robbie
Speed, Ray Hall and Bobby Duzlak. The top five at the halfway point were
Morris, Ricky Duzlak, Bob Miller, Speed and Danny Sanchez. Current point
leader, Jim Lagenback struggled throughout the race and was never a factor in
the race.

Morris would see another good finish evaporate as his right rear tire
went flat on lap 16. Ricky Duzlak inherited the lead as a result. Henry
Tanner made a late race charge to grab second on lap 18. Sanchez briefly
challenged Duzlak for the lead, but mechanical difficulties would end his bid
for the lead on lap 18. As the flagger threw the white flag, Tanner made his
move for the lead. The top two cars made contact on the frontstretch as they
battled for the win. Tanner grabbed the lead going into turn one and was able
to take home the victory; he was followed across the line by Ricky Duzlak,
Miller, Speed and Bob Duzlak.

Bill Lander led the first three laps on the 15-lap IMCA modified feature.
Jeff Carr took the lead from Lander on a lap three restart and cruise home
for the victory. Carr was able to open up a full straightaway lead by lap
eight. Paul LaRochelle would finish in the runner-up position, while early
race leader, Lander would come home third. Donnie Denue was fourth and point
leader, Jim Rajczi rounded out the top five.
