NASCAR WWEST: Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing Focused on Performance at Irwindale
19 August 1999
August 18, 1999 (Roseville, CA) - Sean Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing return to Irwindale Speedway focused on performance for this Saturday's SNAP-ON 250 for the benefit of the City of Hope. With nine of 14 events on the 1999 schedule completed, the team now leads the series in the points standings, money won, laps led, laps completed and best average finish categories, as well as the Gatorade Front Runner and Clevite Engine Builder awards. As good as the statistics sound, one day of bad luck at this point in the schedule could change everything. The points race continues to be extremely close, with just 46 points between first and third place and five more events still on the schedule. "The entire team is focused on race-by-race performance," said Woodside. "Our goal is to maintain and strengthen our points position." Team owner Bill McAnally said of the championship battle, "We're there, and we want to stay there. We've got the driver, the team, the equipment and the sponsorship support we need to make a championship run, and we're going to do everything we can to make that happen." McAnally Racing expects to do better in this event than in the Winston West's June 19 inaugural visit to Irwindale Speedway, when the team was plagued with both mechanical and on-track problems. After nearly spinning out in qualifying, the car's starter broke and had to be repaired just as the race cars were being put on the grid. An accident during the race kept the team busy just trying to keep the car on the track, and they finished in 13th place. Woodside is one of five Winston West drivers scheduled for a private visit with the patients in the pediatric ward at the City of Hope on Friday, August 20. Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) owns and operates the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts/Martin Senour Automotive Finishes/NAPA Filters/California Integrated Waste Management Recycled Oil Program Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Winston West team with Sean Woodside as driver. They are leading the series in the points standings, the Gatorade Front Runner Award, the Clevite Engine Builder Award races, money won, laps led, laps completed and best average finish. Current season results include one win, three top five, six top ten finishes and one Bud Pole Award. Woodside finished both the 1997 and 1998 seasons in second place in the Winston West points standings. -- end --
