Goodyear Reports Little Damage After Turkish QuakeAKRON, Ohio, Aug. 17 -- The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company reported little damage to its Turkish facilities as a result of the powerful pre-dawn earthquake that hit the western part of the country today. Goodyear operates a 550-associate tire plant in Izmit, an 850-associate factory in nearby Adapazari and an office in Istanbul. Early reports indicate that there were no injuries at the Goodyear facilities, which reportedly suffered only minor damage. One associate reportedly was killed at home and an undetermined number have been injured, also in their homes. In Adapazari, a warehouse wall reportedly was damaged. In Izmit, the office complex reportedly was affected. The office in Istanbul has been evacuated while authorities check utilities. Goodyear officials said both plants would return to production as soon as possible when power is restored and general conditions permit.
