NASCAR WWEST: Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing Take Pole and Points Lead Home From Portland
18 August 1999
August 17, 1999 (Roseville, CA) - Sean Woodside and Bill McAnally Racing turned in a powerful performance this weekend in Saturday's Grainger Industrial Supply 200 presented by TCI Digital Cable at Portland Speedway. The team not only captured the Bud Pole Award and led 148 of the 200 laps in the event, it also took over the lead in the NASCAR Winston West points standings to date. The team now leads the series by 36 points over second place driver Mike Chase. Brandon Ash is now in third place and 46 points out of the lead. Woodside set fast time with a 20.497 second qualifying lap, circling the ½-mile oval at 87.818 miles per hour. He continued to set the pace from the green flag, often leading by an entire straightaway, until a hard-charging Bill Sedgwick took over the lead in lap 149. Woodside stayed with the lead pack during the remaining laps, and finished in sixth place after picking his way through a wreck in turn four on the final lap. The crew's quick pit stops during the race helped keep the team out in front . "Our goal this weekend was to take over the lead in the points standings. Now that we've done that, we'll concentrate on staying in the lead. With this kind of tough competition and the tight spread in the points standings at the top, we've got our work cut out for us," commented Woodside. Team owner Bill McAnally said "The hospitality hosted by NAPA's Portland group this weekend was awesome. It was great having them all at the track so that we could share with them our excitement at having taken over the lead in the points standings. The Grainger Industrial Supply 200 presented by TCI Digital Cable 200 is scheduled to air on October 2 at 2:00 Eastern Daylight Time by Speedvision. Bill McAnally Racing (BMR) owns and operates the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts/Martin Senour Automotive Finishes/NAPA Filters/California Integrated Waste Management Recycled Oil Program Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR Winston West team with Sean Woodside as driver.
