Arvin Industries Selected by Industry Week Magazine as One of the World's 100 Best-Managed Companies
COLUMBUS, Ind.--Aug. 16, 1999--Arvin Industries, Inc. , is on the fourth annual list of Industry Week's 100 Best-managed Companies. Chosen by editors at IW, the list includes the world's 100 best-managed companies. The report will appear in the August 16, 1999, issue of Industry Week.Candidates for Industry Week's 100 Best-Managed Companies were culled from the Industry Week 1000, a list of the world's largest publicly held manufacturing companies based on revenues. Waltham, MA-based Primark supplied the data for the IW 1000, which was published in June.
Each company was selected after a lengthy evaluation that included the following four steps: analysis of the company's financial performance; review of a questionnaire that each IW 1000 company was given an opportunity to complete; research into each company's practices in areas such as philanthropy and safety; and voting by a panel of more than 100 business leaders, analysts, and academicians.
"Industry Week's 100 Best-Managed Companies demonstrate superior, consistent financial performance," says John Brandt, editor-in-chief of IW. "We also honor these companies for investing heavily in such areas as research and development, new markets, employees, and society."
"We are honored by Industry Week's recognition of our management performance. It is a tribute to the efforts of all of our employees and the leadership provided by Byron Pond, my predecessor as CEO, who set the course several years ago," said V. William Hunt, Arvin Chairman, President, and CEO.
Forty-five companies have made the list each year; 12 companies appear for the third time; 19 companies appear for the second time; and 24 companies appear for the first time. Fourteen countries are represented on the list: the United States (69 companies), the United Kingdom (7), Japan (5), Germany (4), Switzerland (3), Finland (2), Mexico (2), India (2), Ireland (1), Denmark (1), Canada (1), France (1), Singapore (1), and The Netherlands (1).
Industry Week's 100 Best-Managed Companies will be recognized at the 100 Best-Managed Companies Awards Celebration and Executive Summit. The event will be held at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, AZ, February 28-March 1, 2000.
