Meritor Names Lin Cummins as New Communications Vice President    
    TROY, Mich., Aug. 13 --  Meritor Automotive Inc.
today announced that Lin Cummins has been named vice president of
communications, reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Larry D.
Yost.  Cummins joins Meritor after serving as vice president of advanced
marketing and worldwide communications for United Technologies Automotive in
Detroit.  She will begin her new duties on August 23.

    In this newly created role, Cummins will oversee the corporation's global
public relations, executive and employee communications, advertising, product
brand strategy, community relations, and corporate contributions and identity
programs.
    "Lin's strong knowledge of the automotive industry as well as her
extensive experience in strategic planning and international relations will
help Meritor reach its goal of being recognized as the partner of choice in
quality automotive systems and technology solutions worldwide," said Yost.
"She brings to Meritor a proven track record of developing and implementing
comprehensive strategies that effectively communicate key messages to
employees, customers and shareholders, and she will be a strong asset to our
senior team as we move forward."
    Prior to joining United Technologies Automotive as vice president of
communications and external affairs in 1996, Cummins held a variety of senior
management communications positions with Ford Motor Company.  Since 1977, she
served Ford as director of the Broadcast News Department in Ford's global news
organization, and public affairs manager of Ford International Operations,
Ford Financial Services Group and Ford Tractor International Operations.
    Cummins has a bachelor's of science degree and a master's of arts degree
in speech and communications from Wayne State University in Detroit.

range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light vehicle
