    MONTVALE, N.J., Aug. 13 -- Mercedes-Benz USA, Inc. (MBUSA)
has announced the appointment of Tom Guidugli to general manager, human
resources, at the company's headquarters in Montvale, N.J.  Guidugli replaces
Bob Erzen, who retired after 11 years of service with MBUSA.

    As general manager, Guidugli will be responsible for directing human
resource policies concerning staffing; employee and labor relations;
compensation and benefits; career development and succession planning; as well
as training and development programs for MBUSA employees.
    Guidugli began his automotive career in 1981 with the former Chrysler
Corp., where he held a number of human resource positions responsible for
organizational development, international operations, compensation programs,
labor relations, and human resources development.  Guidugli's most recent
position was divisional vice president, human resources, at DaimlerChrysler
Europe in Brussels, Belgium, from 1998 to July 1999.
    Prior to his automotive career, from 1977 to 1979 Guidugli worked in the
public sector as office manager to U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, and
later directed the Senator's re-election campaign from 1979 to 1981.
    Guidugli holds a B.S. in political science from San Francisco State
University and an M.S. in industrial relations from the University of
Wisconsin.
    Guidugli is relocating from Brussels to Northern New Jersey with his wife
and two daughters.
