Automobile Club of Southern California Picks Daewoo's Lanos & Nubira Best Overall Car Value
COMPTON, Calif., Aug. 12 -- World-class performance at
affordable prices. That has been Daewoo Motor America's mantra since entering
the U.S. auto market less than one year ago. Today, the Automobile Club of
Southern California's Target Car Report announced that the sporty Lanos SE
3-door hatchback and the "go everywhere" Nubira SX 4-door wagon, were chosen
as the top two "Best Value Cars," which ranks the features Southern California
motorists say they want in a vehicle.
"Daewoo is pleased to have received top accolades in this category. Our
commitment has, and continues to be, to provide the American consumer with a
high-quality, reliable, safe and stylish car at affordable prices," says Gary
Connelly, vice president of sales for Daewoo Motor America. "This award
recognizes Daewoo's efforts in fulfilling that promise."
Topping the "Best Value Car" category is the subcompact Lanos SE 3-door
hatchback. Priced at $10,350, the Lanos offers McPherson strut front
suspension, the key to a smooth and responsive vehicle, while providing
resistance to vibration and shock. A wide wheelbase offers added stability
and smoother handling at higher speeds, while providing ample passenger space.
Number two on the Auto Club's Target Car Report "Best Value Car" is the
compact Nubira SX 4-door wagon. Priced at $12,850, the car features the
GM-Holden, four-cylinder engine, the latest in automotive technology. The
2-liter, fuel-injected DOHC D-TEC(TM) engine provides outstanding power and
torque for its class and offers excellent acceleration. Four-wheel
independent suspension and available anti-lock brakes combine excellent
traction and control.
The Auto Club's Automotive Research Center tested and evaluated 56 cars
and trucks to determine the vehicles that most closely meets the key features
that Southern California motorists prefer in a vehicle. Among the features
tested include brake stopping distance, crashworthiness, visibility, handling,
ride quality, fuel economy, interior noise, acceleration, entry and exit,
interior size, turning radius and luggage capacity. A total of 11 cars and
trucks in four categories were selected by the Target Car Report: the "Top
Five" all-around cars; the "Top Truck": three in the "Best Car Value"; one in
"Best Truck Value"; and one in "Alternative Technology."
Steve Mazor, principal automotive engineer for the Automobile Club of
Southern California explains, "The Target Car Report gives consumers a
scientific, impartial basis for selecting the right car for them based on
features motorists say they want and the best value for the dollar."
