Claritas Inc. Releases 1999/2004 UPDATE Demographics, the Final Update and Projection Series for the Century; UPDATE Cites U.S. Wealthiest Counties Now and in 2004

ARLINGTON, Va.--Aug. 11, 1999--As the twentieth century draws to a close, Claritas Inc. announces the release of the 1999/2004 UPDATE, the most accurate, timely, local-area demographics set available.
UPDATE enables marketers to identify key demographic changes and trends in any U.S. market for 1999, and accurately forecast market demographic profiles for the year 2004. In examining this data, marketers will be able to target their most profitable regions with precision and economic insight.
According to UPDATE, seven of the current top 50 wealthiest counties (ranked by income) in the U.S. are in Silicon Valley, and surprisingly, eight are in the Chicago/Detroit corridor.
These counties have experienced continuous median income growth for more than 10 years. Such economic trends are expected to continue into the new millennium, and by the year 2004, incomes will have risen 27.62% and 28.2% in these areas respectively.
"These data have strong implications for businesses basing their marketing strategy on economic forecasts," said Ken Hodges, Director of Demography for Claritas.
"By tracking a region's history, including its booms and busts, we gain a clear picture of how much business a community can actually support. Financial ripples don't give marketers anything to work with. They are more interested in historically steady growth and accurate information pointing to continuous economic strength. That's what Claritas' projections provide."
UPDATE, well into its third decade, estimates current and future demographic profiles for every U.S. neighborhood-level. It is updated annually by drawing on information solicited from a wide range of data sources, including local governments, consumer databases, etc.
Only UPDATE reflects major population and income events such as national disasters and military base closings. It is considered the most accurate local market data in the country.
UPDATE is available in a variety of formats from printed site reports to sophisticated desktop mapping databases and analytic systems, for any geographic level (census, political, postal, media and telecommunications).
Reports can be accessed via the web through Claritas Connect on the Internet at http://www.connect.claritas.com. For more information on UPDATE, call Claritas Express at 800/234-5973.
