Roadway Express Awards Merit Scholarships to Exceptional High School Students

    AKRON, Ohio--Aug. 11, 1999--Roadway Express, Inc. announces ten high school recipients of the Company's sponsored scholarships, that are available to children of the motor carrier's employees.
    The National Merit Scholarship Corp., an independent, non-profit organization, administers the annual scholarships. Winners are chosen on the basis of test scores, academic record, leadership and extracurricular accomplishments. The scholarships for 1999 have a value of $5000 a year for up to four years.
    "We are very proud of this group of scholars that received these prestigious awards," stated Bob Chess, Director of Human Resources for Roadway. "We wish them much success in their chosen fields of study."
