Pennzoil-Quaker State Company Names Mark S. Esselman Senior Vice President of Human Resources
    HOUSTON, Aug. 9 -- Pennzoil-Quaker State Company
announced today that Mark S. Esselman has joined the company as senior vice
president of human resources.  Esselman will be responsible for building a
world-class human resource function in the newly combined Pennzoil-Quaker
State Company.
    Esselman has 19 years of employee relations and human resources management
experience.  Most recently, he was vice president of human resources and
communications at Great Lakes Chemical Corporation.  Prior to that, Esselman
held various human resources and employee relations positions with U.S.
Robotics, Compucom Systems, Inc., PepsiCo and Armco, Inc.  He has extensive
experience in all areas of human resources including organizational
development, recruitment, employment, Equal Employment Opportunity,
compensation, benefits, training and loss control.
    "Mark will provide Pennzoil-Quaker State Company with crucial guidance as
it shifts its culture away from the energy industry and into the consumer
products industry," said Pennzoil-Quaker State President and Chief Operating
Officer James J. Postl.  "He has a strong background in performance
management, succession planning, skills training and development, diversity
planning and recruiting, all areas that we consider key to building our
organization."
    Esselman received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration
from the University of Wisconsin in 1978 and a Master of Science degree in
Industrial Relations from the University of Wisconsin in 1980.
