Final Results: 500 KM of Interlagos

9 August 1999

The 15th 500 KM of Interlagos were won by a brazilian car driven by
Jose Ney Fonseca and Antonio Chambel Filho. The Aldee beat the favorites
Porsches GT2 and the fast AS Vectras, winning with a 55 seconds margin
over the AS Vectra of Paulo Gomes, Ciro Aliperti and Belmiro Jr.

The race started very good, with the Porsche GT2 driven by André Lara
Resende leading with the AS Vectra of Athos Diniz close behind him. The
other Porsche 911 was third, fighting with the AS Vectra of Paulo Gomes,
while the Aldee of Fonseca and Chambel was 5th.

On the sixth lap, a bad accident took the two leading cars out of the
race.
"He is crazy" said the Porsche driver, while the AS Vectra driver said
that the Porsche driver was imature.

The accident happened on the main straight, when the two cars touched at
more than 250 km/h and crashed into the wall just below the spectators.

The race was interrupted for 40 minutes and the race started again with
the second Porsche dominating, until the left the race with mechanical
problems.

So the way was open for the victory of the AS Vectra of Gomes, but with
15 laps to go, they had a problem during a pit-stop and lost the lead to
the Aldee of Chambel, who won the race.
