Exide Appoints Malcolm Gavant as Vice President of Manufacturing
    READING, Pa., Aug. 9 -- Exide Corporation , the
global leader in the lead-acid battery business, today appointed Malcolm
Gavant to the position of Vice President of Manufacturing for all its U.S.
businesses.
    Mr. Gavant, 55, was most recently the senior operations manager of the
company's battery operations in Bristol, TN.  He has been in his position
since 1977.  He is a graduate of Georgia Tech.  He will be assigned to
corporate headquarters in Reading, PA.
    "While we will miss the colleagues and friends we have made in Bristol, my
wife and I are looking forward to our move to Pennsylvania and to the
challenges ahead," Gavant said.
