Harley-Davidson Inc. Selects Oracle(R) E-Business Solution To Rev Up Internet ProcurementLeading Motorcycle Manufacturer Will Use Oracle Internet Procurement To Streamline All Production and Non-Production Procurement REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Aug. 9 -- Oracle Corp. , the number one choice for e-business, today announced that Harley-Davidson Inc. has selected Oracle(R) Internet Procurement, a premier Oracle e-business solution, to streamline and support its procurement function across all domestic manufacturing sites for its original equipment manufacturing, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), parts and accessories and general merchandise divisions. Oracle Internet Procurement was chosen after a detailed selection process led by a user-driven team over other competitive solutions. Harley-Davidson Inc., the leading producer of heavyweight motorcycles based in Milwaukee, WI, is consolidating all U.S. manufacturing production and non-production related procurement across its eight domestic sites into a single automated procurement system, in order to streamline processes, reduce costs, and consolidate demand across the enterprise. The need for process commonality arose as a result of the prior establishment of essentially separate procurement systems at each of its domestic manufacturing sites. This led to disparate systems, fragmentation of procurement data, and manual process integration across sites. "Our focus is on forming deep and long-lasting relationships with our strategic suppliers," said David Cotteleer, manager of planning & control, Materials Management Group for Harley-Davidson Inc. "We are striving for optimal seventy-thirty ratio for buyer time spent on strategic versus administrative functions. Internet-enabled e-business applications are critical in increasing the process efficiencies that allow our buyers to concentrate on these important relationship attributes." Oracle Internet Procurement will be rolled out at Harley-Davidson Inc. in a phased approach that, when complete, will allow 5,000 domestic employees to perform web requisitioning through a streamlined process from a standard desktop browser to a single, consolidated system. More than 180 procurement professionals will access the complete internet procurement system, managing nearly a billion dollars of materials and services purchases. "We are pleased to have Harley-Davidson, a true American success story, join the family of Oracle Internet Procurement users," said Ron Wohl, senior vice president, Oracle Applications Development. "This competitive win is further validation that Oracle is the leader in providing Internet enabled applications that help companies transition to e-business."
