NAVTECH to Go ISO-9002 in Fargo
Map Production Facility is Latest Navigation Technologies Unit to Receive
               Certification from World Standards Organization

CHICAGO, Aug. 9 -- Navigation Technologies announced today
that its map database production facility in Fargo, N.D., has been officially
recommended for ISO 9002 certification -- the global quality management
standard established by the International Organization for Standardization.
The official recommendation for certification is the direct result of the
very favorable outcome of the Initial Quality System Assessment (KEMA) in
July 1999. The European NAVTECH database production facility in Best, The
Netherlands was the first to be ISO 9002-certified in Europe in 1997.
Navigation Technologies, which is the premier developer of route guidance
map databases for North America and Europe, said its Fargo facility is
expected to receive the ISO certificate by the end of August. The Fargo
facility, which employs 130 people, creates and digitizes the company's
NAVTECH databases primarily for Europe, where ISO certification is becoming a
prerequisite for conducting business.
"The ISO certification verifies that Navigation Technologies meets the
internationally recognized and internationally defined quality standard," said
Michael J.M. Walsh, Vice President of Worldwide Database Operations,
Navigation Technologies. Certification is valid for three years.
ISO, which is the Geneva-based worldwide federation of national standards
bodies from 130 countries, was established in 1947. The mission of ISO is to
promote the development of standards to facilitate the international exchange
of goods and services.
"We're very proud of this accomplishment because it says our Fargo
facility is a world-class operation and that Navigation Technologies'
customers can be assured of supreme quality in our products and services,"
Walsh said.
The year-long process, which was completed by the Fargo facility in July,
consisted in part of a comprehensive compilation and documentation of all
business process and procedure.
